Skin surface heat flux was measured at four sites in free-ranging Weddell seals. Sensors are shown at sites termed head, neck, axilla and flank. Initial trials were conducted with six sensors placements (also including shoulder and hip), whose locations are depicted by circles. Photo inset shows the heat flux sensor and protective PVC cuff that was attached to the skin (right, PVC cuff alone on left)
