Left and right panels show movement paths and salinity (open circles) of individual fish in Eresfjord by manual tracking. The fish were released in the river mouth and then tracked by boat. Arrows indicate locations where the vertical distributions of salinity (bars in the right panels) were measured using the salinity meter every 30 min. Bars indicate salinity values at every recording. The top to the bottom bars sequentially show the salinity at the depths of 0–3 m (0, 0.5, 1, 1.5, 2 and 3 m depth) although several bars overlap due to similar measured values
