The top panel is for a Pacific cod with a typical recuperation period were it returns to shallower water shortly after release and then gradually returns to its original depth after several days. The bottom panel illustrates a Pacific cod that died shortly after its release and the subsequent period during which body decomposed and then the tag came to the surface
